World Bank estimate based on UN Population Division prospects was updated in 2022 and found India’s rural population value to be 64%. With the Rural Development budget of India being Rs. 1.60 crores for 2023-2024, there is a dire need for professionals in the field of Rural Development Management. Considering this need, ICECD’s One-year Post Graduate Diploma course has been meticulously designed with an exclusive coverage of theory, research and practical training that create experts with unbridled optimism. This course enables students to become acquainted with planning, implementing and monitoring rural development initiatives in Government, NGO and Corporates under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
ICECD, in its pursuit for excellence, focuses on three areas: Personal Values, Social Responsibility and Academic Distinction. The Post-graduate Diploma curriculum leaves no stone unturned in including these in the most effective manner and preparing students to face the challenges in days to come. The Institute has been successful in empowering students to successfully meet the challenges that the nation at large, and various states in particular, are facing today.
Students from Gujarat, Bihar, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, etc. along with International students from Nigeria and Ethiopia constitute the group who have successfully completed the courses, and are doing exceedingly well in their respective careers.
Course Objective:
Managing rural development is not a new activity. What is perhaps new is treating the management processes for rural development as a field for systematic research and development to create a DIFFERENCE. The course aims to create and strengthen the skills and competencies in managing the rural development programs.
Duration : 1 Year – 2 Semester of 6 months each
The Course aims to
:
- Develop a cadre of sensitized professionals for institutions (NGOs/GOs/Banks/etc.) skilled in assessing needs, conceptualizing, implementing and managing rural development, to achieve economic, social and political empowerment.
- Understand gender issues and develop gender sensitive policies, plans and programs.
- Understand the developmental needs of the rural people, with focus on women for social and economic empowerment.
- Sensitize students towards the need for development of rural areas and execute effective interventions for socio-economic development of the poor/rural/deprived people.
Eligibility:
The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree awarded by any of the University in India or other educational institute established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as university under Section 3 of UGC Act 1956 or posses an equivalent qualification recognized by Government of India. Students appearing for Final Year degree examination at the time of application can also apply. Due consideration is given to candidates belonging to the weaker sections, Schedule Caste (SC), Schedule Tribes (ST) and differently abled categories of students.
The Course Design:
The post graduate diploma course is structured to provide basic focus on conceptual understanding of rural and gender development for immediate practical applications. The course would enable students to become well acquainted with planning, implementing and monitoring developmental initiatives.
The course would cover main subjects:
- Integrated Rural Development
- Rural Economic Development Management
- Social Development Management
- Human Resource Management
- Environment Management
- Development Management
Specialization:
In the subjects above, the students would have studied the theoretical aspects. The specialization will provide them an opportunity for linking the theory to the practical aspects in the development perspectives. This hands-on experiential process would enhance the students’ learning and capability. The students will select any one subject as their area of specialization. These elective subjects will be studied in the second semester.
