Women Attending Literacy Class
Training in progress for Anganwadi Workers
Education not ony upgrades the general living standard of people at the individual level, but it also sensitises them to various socio-economic and political changes.
Considering literacy as a major sub-component of education, the following approaches and methodologies were adopted:
1. Various activities to spread literacy for primary school teachers and government officials were conducted for improving the quality of education.
Functional literacy programmes for Aduts delved at developing reading, writing and numerical skills of illiterate men and women and making them functionally literate. The target group for this activity was Self-Help Group members and
illiterate villagers.
Strengthening Anganwadi (Pre-Primary School) aimed at providing proper nutrition and literacy skills to tiny tots at the village level. Mostly every village has atleast one such institution. The activities are aimed at creating a better environment for learning and instilling confidence and interest among the children to attend the classes.
Forming pressure groups within the communities with teacher, especially Aanganwadi workers, to encourage better attendance in the school.
2. Encouraging interaction between teachers and parents for joint effort towards overall betterment in school.
To promote and provide functional literacy to women who are socially and economically deprived. This helps to bring out their latent talents, so that they not only acquire academic learning, but also vocational proficiency, personal character and social values to become self-reliant and responsible citizens.
