Director's Message

Dr. Hina Shah - Founder - Director

International Centre for Entrepreneurship and Career Development (ICECD) was founded in 1986 by experts in the field of entrepreneurship, economics, technology, behavioural science and small industries management. ICECD became a novel institution with the conviction that “Development Promotion of Entrepreneurship and Micro-Small-Medium Enterprises” (MSME) are highly effective tools to create long term, sustainable employment self-employment and entrepreneurs in the country. Today developmental organizations and policy-makers have realized the acute need of Entrepreneurship development for the creation of MSME and are following the path envisioned by ICECD far ahead of its time.

It is important to note that MSME creation is not an automatic process. As our socialization and education system, more than often focuses on taking up jobs for others. Leading our population towards entrepreneurs required special interventions at different levels, at policy, making practical and human resource capacity building for entrepreneurship.

The initial look to a sustainable development agenda for `people, planet and prosperity’, with gender equality and women’s empowerment at the core of our activities. ICECD is rising to that challenge and building upon a historical achievement in various sectorsof Urban/Rural/Tribal/Slum communities in over the years. For allowing projects, we recognize that success is founded on partnership, be it with Government, Corporate, Non-Governmental Organisations or Academic Institutions. We have taken all opportunities to encourage entrepreneurship at all levels and have been successful in mainstreaming and empowering the marginalized population. A growing share of our strategic partnerships are now starting to take root in the corporate sector as we work together on fostering women’s economic empowerment and calling on men too to take responsibility and be accountable for change.

Over the years, the Centre has successfully built resources, be it human or institutions and is working with corporateand agencies like International Finance Corporation (IFC), United Nations, Commonwealth countries across Asia, Africa and the Caribbean countries. To meet the ever-increasing diverse development needs for socio-economic empowerment, ICECD is operating through various centres in India with its own team of experts having multifaceted experiences.

Working with the formal education system, the Institute has developed managerial/business skills of the technically qualified students, before they come out of the education system, which enables them to explore both options – Employment and Self-Employment.

The Institute aims to achieve holistic human resource development in the country in developingentrepreneurship, with special emphasis on women. Thus, we focus on sustainable development of the society through our committed team and making significant and perceptible change in the quality of life of the people trained by us. Creating 5000 entrepreneurs every year has been the hallmark of our Institution and we march ahead to new horizon.

We will continue to work on aligning all sources of development funding and the Institutions that manage them, whether public or private, domestic or international, with development goals and we will promote multi-stakeholder partnerships as key to ensuring adequate and robust financing for developmental activities including gender equality and the empowerment of women/men.

In these above interventions, number of success stories and role models have emerged which act as a light house for future generations to replicate making adifference, as our motto says “We don’t find ways, we make them”.

The Institute enables change in favour of those who previously exercised little control over their lives. We believe that empowerment starts with changes in consciousness and in self-perception. This can be the most explosively creative, energy releasing transformation, one from which there is no looking back.
