ICECD’s Certificate Course in Sustainable Development for Socio-Economic and Political Empowerment is an innovative initiative focusing on preparing the new generation leaders. This course aims to create and strengthen the skills and competencies in implementing and managing the sustainable development programmes.

Sustainable Development is about how we live today for a better tomorrow, by meeting the present needs without compromising the chances of our future generations to able to meet their needs. Hence the survival of our societies on our planet depends on a more sustainable individual and communities of world.

There are three different Development Activities Pillars – economic growth, social inclusion and environmental protection which are forever in motion – if one or two fall the world dies and this is not the legacy we wish to leave for the future, Do we?

There are many organisations like Govt. (through their policies and schemes), NGOs, Corporate and other institutions working for development, but fall short in the sustainable outcomes. As per an estimate more than 1,50,000 management and development professionals are required in India with understand of development needs for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). This course is an outcome of various socio-economic and political development models implemented by ICECD over the last 37 years in India and abroad through innovative and result oriented approaches for empowering communities towards irreversible change processes.


Course Objective:

The purpose of this course is :

  • To develop the theoretical and knowledge foundation for sustainable development
  • To gain understanding of emerging Indian challenges in sustainable development processes and societal governance systems (our socialisation and cultural patterns)
  • To build up the capacity to understand and assess the gaps within the systems to develop sustainable solutions for communities in the socio-economic and political realm
  • To create a professional cadre skilled in Needs Assessment, implementing and managing development programmes for socio-economic and political empowerment.

The course coverage :
The course is designed to provide focus on conceptual understanding of sustainable development. The course would enable the learners to become well acquainted with understanding the development needs, needs based inputs and implementation and monitoring.

The Learning Outcomes : :

ICECD stands as one of the very few institutes in India to offer this course with a gender perspective in development with a uniquely designed curriculum. At the end of this 3 months course the participants will be equipped with:

  • How socio-economic and political developmental considerations can actually be imbibed within the individual and community for sustainable change processes
  • How existing sustainable development tools can be effectively modified for the change processes
  • How to design sustainability performance indicators to assess the impact on the community’s sustainable development
  • How to design feedback systems to readjust the pathways of processes and procedures to ensure success in implementing sustainable development initiatives
  • How to empower communities set sustainability targets using appropriate indicators

Faculty :

The faculty have vast experience in the development field with high academic credentials and national and international exposure. The distinctive research and development project experience offered by the faculty ensures a rich learning by the participants.

Examination and Evaluation :

Evaluation would be continuous process. The participant’s performance would be tested through assignment, quiz and tests, study reports and presentations.

Eligibility and Admissions :

The candidate must have a valid Graduate/ Post Graduate degree awarded by any University in India. Students appearing in the final year degree examination at the time of application may also apply. Candidate may apply online from the institute’s website or visit the ICECD campus.

Course Methodology :

Online sessions (Thrice a week / 2 hours per day) will be scheduled with experts and faculty and shared with the participants. There will be ample opportunities for two way interactions with the faculty for experience sharing and query. Reading material and references and handouts will be share with the participants.
